The Personal Information Protection Commission is wrapping up its investigation into Worldcoin, a controversial cryptocurrency that collects personal data like face and iris recognition. The results are expected to be released as soon as next month. The commission initiated the probe in February following reports of Worldcoin mishandling biometric data. Despite typically taking six months to a year, the investigation has been expedited by up to a month. Worldcoin, developed by Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, rewards users who register their iris with its “Orb” device with cryptocurrency. The investigation is focusing on whether Worldcoin’s data collection and processing comply with privacy laws, including transferring data abroad. Worldcoin has updated its privacy policy, now allowing users to request the deletion of their personal data.
