Be aware of phishing attempts using NFTs, which have recently gained popularity. Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are non-fungible tokens that have gained a lot of attention as virtual assets alongside cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
According to security firm EastSecurity, a number of users are being targeted through phishing emails including “NFT Priming”. Attackers intends to utilize popular NFTs like BellyBear and Starbucks which are actually issued in order to increase click rates. When a user clicks the email, since it contains a phishing email disguised as a real official site with a [Join] button, they are led to phishing pages created by attackers. The problem here is that the phishing page is highly sophisticated, displaying a QR code when users access the page. And if users install in the broswer, the browser automatically leads users to a cryptocurrency wallet plugin. In the case of freeminting, there is no purchase cost but pay for gas, a kind of fee. They don’t feel too suspicious aboout being tricked into connecting their wallets. However, when users’ cryptocurrency wallet connected to phishing pages, all cryptocurrencies would be stolen by the attacker.
An official from the East Security Response Center (ESRC) said, “As the entry of companies into the NFT business becomes more and more common and users’ participation in cryptocurrency investment skyrockets, attacks aimed at stealing cryptocurrency is expected to increase accordingly.” “You should check a correct site address of the NFT project before accessing it.”
